Heather Binns MA CPC LIMHP is licensed in the state of Nebraska as a Certified Professional Counselor (#426) and a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (#887). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree with high honors in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College in Nebraska. She is also a certified life/care coach.

Heather has been a therapist for over 30 years and has provided individual and group therapy in a number of settings including agency based, private practice, and hospital based IOPs. She is a life/care coach to companies such as Amazon and Sales Force. She works with adults and couples and treats a wide variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, adjustment problems, relational issues, self esteem, grief, and trauma. She has specialized training in treating PTSD (EMDR). She also has training and experience in co-occurring disorders (mental health and addictions). She is trained in John Gottman’s method of couple’s work.

Heather believes in attending to the whole person and all the life domains (health, relationships, work, spirituality, etc). She leans toward positive and growth oriented psychology methods and takes a non judgmental approach with clients. She understands that good rapport and compassionate understanding help clients to feel they are in a safe psychological environment that allows them to bring their whole self to the table. There they can truly look at who they are (without self judgment), see what they want for their life and build the skills, courage and hope to move forward toward that vision. She believes that at our core we are all healthy, wise and loving and have the capacity to heal and grow.

The approach Heather uses depends on the presenting issues as well as the client’s personal style, preferences and beliefs. She understands and practices traditional evidence based therapeutic techniques as well as complementary and alternative ones. Her approach varies and includes, but is not limited to, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Emotional Freedom Therapy, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Gottman Method, Transactional Analysis, and EMDR. In 30+ years she has accumulated a vast array of resources such as articles, videos and links and sees great value in providing information and resources for clients to explore, review, and practice outside of session. When not helping clients she enjoys being in nature and spending time with her family and pets. She is an avid reader and enjoys learning and research in the area of psychology.
